Red team, blue team:
nato, the warsaw pact, and the search for security in cold war europe
Book manuscript in preparation, co-authored with Simon Miles
All too often, the alliances that defined Cold War Europe are confined to separate narratives. No shortage of scholars have dug into critical episodes in NATO’s history over the years, and historians, making the most of now–readily available archival material, have started to reveal the inner workings of the Warsaw Pact.
Red Team, Blue Team puts NATO and the Warsaw Pact in conversation with one another, showing how and why these two nuclear-armed alliances competed – and cooperated – in a shared quest to create a more secure Europe, however precarious that security might be.
